Employer Information Sessions

One of the best ways to meet students and generate interest in your organization is to come to campus to conduct an employer information session. The SFS Career Center will promote the event and generate an audience of interested students.  If your organization has an important application deadline, please alert us as early as possible so students will have ample time to apply before the deadline. If you are located in the Washington, DC area and would prefer to hold an information session at your facility, that’s possible, too. Another option for your organization is to send a speaker to talk and meet with students to discuss industry trends or events. The SFSCC hosts a number of sector speakers and panels throughout the academic year on a variety of topics, and we would be happy to have you on campus to meet our talent pool and discuss future trends.

On-Campus Interviewing

Recruiters may reserve space for on-campus interviews by emailing sfscc@georgetown.edu with ample time prior to the selected interview date.

Office Hours

Employers often come and meet with students for 20 – 30 minute office hour appointments. These appointments are not usually tied to a specific position, but serve as a vehicle for recruiters/alumni to meet students interested in their company and industry.

Jobs and Internships Database

Job and internship openings are listed on Handshake, the SFSCC’s electronic database, to which all current SFS students and graduate alumni have access. As an employer, you may register to search the database for relevant resumes. You may also post jobs and internships for students and alumni to see.

Resume Books

Employers who prefer to review the resumes of graduate SFS and Government students as a group may submit their requirements to the SFS Career Center. Center staff will collect the resumes of applicants and forward them directly to the appropriate department of your organization.

Professional Development Seminars & Workshops

The SFSCC offers targeted workshops such as networking strategies, personal branding, and interviewing skills during the fall and spring semesters. We encourage recruiting partners and alumni to facilitate a professional development seminar/workshop. These workshops are usually one hour in length and can occur in person or online through a webinar.

Mock Interviews

Mock interviews provide an opportunity to help students improve their interviewing skills. Students meet with employer volunteers and participate in a practice interview. Volunteer commitments can range from two hours to half a day.

Executive-in-Residence

The Executive-in-Residence Program is an opportunity for industry experts to volunteer and work with SFS graduate students on career-related topics.

Executives-in-Residence enable students to gain a unique perspective on their chosen career and receive individual feedback on resumes, cover letters, and interviewing strategies. The program also provides employer volunteers an opportunity to help prepare SFS graduate students for their next career move, identify potential talent for their industry, as well as give back to SFS by mentoring graduate students in their career development.

Graduates by Program

• Arab Studies (MA) graduates meet the growing need for individuals who know and understand the language, history, culture, and politics of the contemporary Arab world. Graduates of this program use their advanced Arabic language skills and experience in the region for careers in diplomacy, development, government, business and finance, higher education, human rights, journalism, and cultural affairs.
• Asian Studies (MA) graduates have a unique combination of functional training and regional expertise to meet the growing need for understanding this vital part of the world.
• Eurasian, Russian & East European Studies (MA) graduates focus on the societies of this vast and diverse region. The program emphasizes skills in analyzing change in an area of continuing world interest. All graduates have advanced training in major regional languages.
• Foreign Service (MS) graduates are versatile professionals with specializations in commerce and finance, foreign policy, conflict management, and development. They are equipped with the experiences and skills sets—statistics, foreign languages, strategic planning and decision-making, economics and risk management—valued in today’s workplace.
• German and European Studies (MA) graduates are the next generation of transatlantic leaders. Their individually tailored concentrations are grounded in an understanding of complex issues such as European integration, changes in Europe’s international relations, and transatlantic trade. Every graduate is proficient in two or more European languages.
• Global Human Development (MGHD) prepares graduates to understand the challenges of development and provide them with the tools and experience to address those challenges as successful professionals through coursework, extra-curricular activities, and practical field work experience.
• International Business and Policy (MA) is a dual program between the Graduate School of Foreign Service and the McDonough School of Business that prepares graduates to tackle contemporary issues in international relations global business in tandem.
• Latin American Studies (MA) graduates are trained to analyze the complexities of Latin America and the Caribbean, with particular emphasis on issues of democratic governance, economic integration, inter-American relations and culture and society. All graduates are bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese.
• Security Studies (MA) graduates benefit from a comprehensive curriculum offering specializations in U.S. national and international security policy, terrorism and substate violence, unconventional weapons and nonproliferation, military operations and technology and security. Many students come to the field with years of military and professional experience as well as active security clearances. The Security Studies Program is dedicated to preparing a new generation of analysts, policymakers, and scholars fully knowledgeable about the range of international and national security problems and foreign policy issues of the 21st Century.
